INTENT
At Bishop Tufnell Primary School, we believe that a high-quality art education should engage, inspire and challenge all pupils. Art contributes to the development of the whole child in many ways, aesthetically, emotionally, physically and socially.
Our curriculum is enriched by studying a range of works of famous, influential artists and exploring different techniques and learning the new skills through drawing, painting, printing, collage, textiles, 3D work and digital art and are given the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas.
IMPLEMENTATION
Through a carefully planned sequenced learning journey using the explore, experiment and create method, pupils will learn to interpret and harness a deeper understanding of art and design. They will learn about great artists, craft makers and designers and understand their historical and cultural significance. Links are made between art and design and design technology, when appropriate. Pupils will explore, refine and reflect on their ideas and create well thought through works of art. Children are encouraged to use their sketchbooks as work books to experiment and practise their skills.
IMPACT
Children will become inspired to produce original works of art, which they are proud of and they are able to reflect on their learning and talk about the work of artists they have been studying.
