Science

At Bishop Tufnell Primary school we value developing investigative and curious minds so Science is of huge importance to us. We believe that Science is a key part of the curriculum. Children love investigating; they are naturally inquisitive, which is the essesnce of Science. We encourage a hands-on, practical approach through investigations that really fire up the children's independent thinking skills as well as their enthusiasm. Our Science is sometimes linked to our topic if appropraite, such as rocks and soil in a Stone Age topic in order to make it more meaningful. Our Science lessons often have cross-curricular links such as maths and data analysis. english communicating and writing, art in presenting theories and drawing findings.

The Science curriculum is also enriched hugely by our amazing school grounds that offer us opportunities to learn about living things and their habitats and enjoy outdoor learning opportunities. All classes participate in forest schools where they learn to respect, love and explore our incredible woods.

In year four, our children have a great opportunity to stay overnight for a two day residential at the Glorious Goodwood Estate. Here they again explore the ancient woodlands, learn to identify trees and find out where their food comes from at the farm and milking parlour. We feel passionate at Bishop Tufnell Primary School that exploring the great outdoors through Science and other activities has fantastic benefits to the children's mental health and wellbeing.
