Music

At Bishop Tufnell CE Primary School, we aim to engage and inspire pupils to develop their talent as musicians and develop their love of music. Self-confidence and creativity are just some of the skills nurtured through the subject of Music. Through their Primary education, pupils will listen and respond to a variety of different genres of music. They will play a range of musical instruments, both tuned and un-tuned, working to create short individual and group compositions that reflect different moods and effects. Pupils will sing a diverse range of songs, chants, and rhymes, and add accompaniments with both musical instruments and vocal sounds.

Music links with a range of other subjects. For example in English, it helps develop pupils’ spoken language, whilst in Mathematics it aids children in their understanding of pattern. Sound is an important area in Science as well as being a key part of Music. Pupils learn about music across a range of historical periods and develop a greater understanding of cultural and religious traditions. Interpreting Music through dance helps children to express their sense of rhythm. PSHCE and Music have a strong connection in developing children’s self-confidence, and sense of achievement. By using ICT programmes, including Charanga, there are more opportunities to deliver a wide exciting musical curriculum.
