Design & Technology

Design and technology education at our school is an inspiring and practical subject.  We teach children how to be creative and use imagination in designing and making products that solve real and relevant problems.  We give the children the opportunities to learn in a cross curricular way.  They will use skills and knowledge that they have acquired from subjects such as mathematics, science, computing and art in their design and technology lessons.  The children are taught how to take risks through designing and making, becoming resourceful, innovative and enterprising.  Through the teaching of careful evaluation of products, the children learn how to become creative problem solvers and identify how things can be improved.  Ultimately, high-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity and rapidly changing technology of our children’s future.

These are the key skills taught at our school in design and technology:

Design purposeful products for themselves and others, communicating ideas through talking, drawing and using information technology

Use a range of tools and equipment to carry out practical tasks.

Select from and use a wide range of materials, including construction kits, textiles and ingredients

Explore and evaluate existing products.

Evaluate their ideas and products against design criteria
